A CALL FOR JUSTICE
Solidarity greetings from the ambiance of the National Association of Ilaje Students (NAIS), National Body and Federation of Ese-Odo Local Government Students (FELGOS), National Body Body.
We hereby use this medium to report to your office that members of our prestigious associations "National Association of Ilaje Students ( NAIS), National Body and Federation of Ese-Odo Local Government Students (FELGOS), National Body" were attacked by Staff of the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) during a peaceful and well coordinated protest on approval of OSOPADEC Bursary/Scholarship form
At about 3:45 pm on the said day, the OSOPADEC staff came in their multitude and unleashed attack on the peaceful protesters. Upon arriving at the main gate of the commission, they attacked our members. We were assaulted and battered with various weapons thereby inflicting on us various degrees of injuries that could lead to death.
This attack which was openly lead by a notable member of staff of the OSOPADEC One Mr. Wale Monday Mafolabomi who happens to be the Director of community welfare.
We urge you to put pressure on the State security authorities to immediately and thoroughly investigate the attacks, identify the perpetrators and ensure the prosecution of anyone found to be responsible for the violent attacks.
Freedom of peaceful assembly is a fundamental right guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution and regional and international human rights treaties including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to which Nigeria is a state party.
The Students of the mandate area in Ondo State are seriously concerned that the authorities of the Nigeria Police Force have so far failed as they watch the peaceful protesters being attacked while standing at the entrance of the commission without any peaceful intervention, as they also threatening to shot any of the students who refuses to vacate the premises of the commission.
Comr. Omotade Moses Segun NAIS President, Comr. Samuel Ojudoh Dickson FELGOS President and scores of protesters, were hospitalised after sustaining bruises on their arm and some other physical part of their body.
We urge you to make use of your gallantry capacity to mount pressure on the State security authorities to take all feasible measures to look into this attention calling issue before it gets out of normalcy position.
The Ondo state government as an authority have a responsibility both to respect the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and to protect protesters from violent attacks.
The demonstrations have taken place against a backdrop of the failure by the OSOPADEC et state government authorities to respect our mandate right by paying us our bursary/schorlarship
Our main agitations at the moment:
1. Immediate approval of 2018/2019 & 2019/2020 OSOPADEC Bursary form
2. Investigation of Mr. Wale Mafolabomi activities as Director of Community Welfare and Dr. Victor Koledoye Permanent Secretary of the commission as Chief sponsor of the said attack.
3. Immediate arrest of Mr. Wale Mafolabomi as channel to fetch out other members of the OSOPADEC staff who were perpetrators during the attack
4. Immediate treatment of our injured members and payment of damages for some of our misplaced gadgets including Phone (iPhone X, Vivo J8, Infinix Hot 7 Pro, a fairly used Infinix S5) Wallet, Wristwatch totaling about #320,000
5. Thorough investigation of Mr. Wale Mafolabomi and Dr. Koledoye Victor on their hanky panky play in handling issues that resulted to the canceling of one previous academic year bursary payment 2016/2017 session in particular and Inclusion of over 300 ghost Students in other to certified their pockets on yearly basis.
6. Immediate arrest of one Mr. Bernard for threatening some of our members with Cutlass and Axe. Meanwhile Mr. Wale Mafolabomi would be a better option to be arrested as Chief perpetrator if efforts are not well connected to get hold of Mr. Bernard.
We have both video and picture as evidence to backup our claims so far.
We so demand for Justice.
Yours in Struggle!
